Comedian Bob Hope was born as Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham, England in 1903. His father was an English stonemason, and his mother was a Welsh concert singer. In 1907, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and became naturalized Americans in 1920. Bob Hope's career included Broadway, radio, television, and film. Hope is also noted for his work entertaining American troops. He participated in the USO during World War II, and continued all the way up to Operation Desert Storm in 1990. Hope was named an Honorary Veteran in 1997 by the United States Congress for his work. He died at age 100 in 2003.
Thomas Jefferson was a legendary American statesman. Born in 1743 in Virginia, his father Peter Jefferson was of Welsh descent. At age 33, Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence. He also wrote a bill establishing freedom of religion, which was enacted in 1786. He served as governor of Virginia 1779-1781. He was the third president of the United States, holding office from 1801 to 1809. His last great civic accomplishment was the founding of the University of Virginia. He died in 1826.
Anthony Hopkins was born in Port Talbot Wales in 1937. He moved to the
United States in 1972. He was knighted in 1993 by the Queen of England, and he
became a American citizen in 2000. He has appeared in Howard's End,
Amistad, Hannibal, and The Silence of the Lambs, for which
he won an Oscar for Best Actor.
Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones was born in Swansea, Wales, in 1969.
Her career took off at the age of fifteen when she landed a lead role in a
production of 42nd Street in London's West End. At 24, she moved to
the United States, where her film career soon blossomed.Her filmography
includes Traffic, Entrapment, The Mask of Zorro, The
Haunting, and Chicago, for which she was an Oscar for Best Supporting
Actress. She married American actor Michael Douglas in 2000.
